What they say in Canada is <+7 degrees C, switch to winter tires for better performance. 7C is 44F, so you are dipping down into the temperature range where winter tires might grip better than all seasons on dry pavement, but imho it should be completely unnecessary in your climate (50 is still "shorts weather" imho). I typically run all seasons into about late-October / early-November when average highs are around +3C and lows about -5C (25-35F). Usually by that point we get the odd dusting of snow overnight and there could be some ice here and there at times... plus I know I'm going to freeze my hands off changing wheels if I wait much longer at that point - November is a month of transition here, and it can be sudden.
I hadn't noticed a big issue with the GMAX's (and like I say, I have driven them on the c900 in -20C), but that doesn't mean that they aren't slower to warm up - I just haven't noticed. Also if I drive the c900 in winter after driving the 9-5, even though the 9-5 is on konis and stiffer springs, the ride is much more compliant than the 900, so I may have just attributed any tire rock harness on the 900 to that. Ditto when I switch over to winters on the 9-5: going from 225/45R17 W rated to 205/55R16 R rated is fairly drastic :-).
