I bought a 2019 Outback with the H6 engine, Touring Package, and only 8400 miles. Fuel mileage on long expressway drives is 33mpg (Ann Arbor to Chicago to Ann Arbor last weekend). The Touring Pkg is the top of the line trim (I believe) and seat comfort matches that of our SAABs. Towing capacity is 3600 lbs and the vehicle is only 1-inch wider and longer than my 2008 9-5 sedan so the Outback easily fits in our garage. Significantly taller though.
I installed a tow hitch by myself, breaking the plastic interior threshold trim for the rear hatch in the process. It had to be removed to access the trailer lighting harness. The cost of the official Subaru replacement part was under $20!
We were very interested in the TourX but research revealed no published rating for tow capacity. My Quantum on its trailer weighs 1800-2000 pounds.
We needed a vehicle that:
- Fits in the garage.
- Has interior cargo matching or exceeding that of our 9-3SC.
- Tow capacity of at least 3500lbs.
- AWD was a huge bonus.
- Reputation for durability and customer support.
