Honda has been quietly adding a lot of style and substance to their cars in recent years. It's easy to mistake a top spec Accord for a A7 if you don't look closely. A last gen Civic is amazingly roomy--more so than Accords of not that long ago. With the alloys it's very stylish looking. A lot of car for the money. The grandson leased it with $1200 down and it was $235 a month so he had clear sailing car-wise for three years. Then he bought it at the end. He has 60k on it now. He graduates this spring, so it was a smart way to do things. He had a reliable car all though college with minimal outlay. Other than routine maintenance he put a set of tires on it. And he can still drive it for a long, long time if he chooses. You buy a Honda and it'll take you for a nice, long ride.
The Lincoln was exactly the type of car I was talking about--owned by old people and no one wants them. Usually well maintained. Rear drive LTDs and Caddy's are other ideas--lot of old ones around with low mileage. Nissan Versa's are good. Find the geekiest, oddball, ugly duckling you can.
