The 3 lacks some in power(compared to the 6) but is very roomy. Has a decided euro feeling...feels so much like a c900 on the road. It is a 2.3 na 4cyl, but it is a true Mazda engine...not a Ford v-6! In fact the whole car is an honest Mazda (built in Japan of 95% japanese components) Word has it that a turbo for the 6 and 3 are on the way for next year, at over 250hp, from that 2.3.
The na 4 is as quick 0-60 as our old c900 turbos...just doesn't feel like it.
I am very satisfied with my 3 overall. In fact my wife may be buying the 5 when it debuts this summer. It is, as I'm told, a tall 3 with 3 rows of seating and sliding back doors like a van. The second row has over 6" of travel. Mazda says it drives like the 3...not a van or suv...and will deliver 28-32 mpg (auto/stick).
How I wish the general could see fit to give us even 1 Saab as Saablike as these!
