and to be honest, neither one thrilled me. I have a modded 9-3 now and can easily spin the wheels through all of 1st and 2nd on dry pavement. Fun but the lack of traction does get frustrating so I'm thinking it may be worth the $$ for AWD via the S4 or S60R. Both the Aero and the SS can be modded to make the same (or more) power than I have now but it still won't get me around the traction issue. I essentially want to lease a new car, chip it (the S60R is the only one of the two that is probably worth spending the $$ to do this) and not have to do nothing else. Call it getting older but...
The S60R will absolutely surprise you with its combination of power, handling, ride and braking. Similar power delivery to my friend's modded 850R but a much better "European" handling feel and the brakes are simply awesome.
I love the previous generation 540i but even with snows, I don't think my wife would feel real comfortable having me drive around with the kids during a typical New England winter (can't blame her either).
Long story short, if the 9-3SS with the upcoming turbo V6 was available in the spring of '05 and had AWD, it would be a no-brainer!! Unfortunately, I don't think believe this will be the case.
Regards,
Derek
