Is it a rock crawling, super modded wrangler? No, of course not, but it is very competent off road, and I get 25mpg's average so far, which is decent for an suv, and I took a hit getting the FDII package. and we've taken a few Long (500+ miles) trips in it, and it is very comfortable on road as well.
I do agree, that getting a NON 4wd jeep makes me scratch my head a bit, but try to find a cross over that offers a manual, and comes in the price the jeep can meet and it makes a bit more sense. MSRP for a japanese model starts at 5k more, the koreans come in at 2k more. and I like the design better myself.
