to think about. The Wrangler has an old part time 4x4 system which a very different from the AWD systems most sport utes and cars use now days. It's not happy being in 4x4 at much more the 50 mph. So at highway speeds you'll be in two wheel drive. It's definitely NOT a high speed all weather vehicle. The high center of gravity is not a good thing on slippery roads and I find I drive much slower than I would have in a Saab or even my Subaru. We drove across the state in a snow storm over the holidays and did it in 2 drive drive because we were able to go a bit faster than would be appropriate in 4x4. So you might be on to something here. A two wheel drive Wrangler would be better balanced without the weight of the transfer case, extra drive shafts, differential, etc. If you could get a locking rear differential there'd be very little functional difference even if you live where it snows.
