in my own research... Posted by Johnson [Email] (#3237) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Johnson) on Wed, 13 Nov 2013 08:02:12 In Reply to: New Jeep Cherokee, No Snaab, Sun, 10 Nov 2013 09:41:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
and from all the rumors this is what I get out of it and what jeeps lineup will look like for 2015/16
Grand cherokee (super luxury)
Cherokee (smaller, but still luxury)
Wrangler (Off road classic)
Patriot (C segment high volume)
Fiat panda based SUV (B segment high fuel economy car)
The Grand cherokee and the cherokee compete in the same upscale market, but the cherokee will max at about 35 grand, but the majority of them will be sub 30k. where most grand cherokees will be around 35k.
The wrangler is a classic and cannot go away, but will likely have a refresh to improve aerodynamics/fuel efficiency.
The compass is going byebye, and will only have the patriot left, with a refresh (and hopefully some power train carry over from the cherokee)
and the new vehicle (name yet to be known) will be a sub 20k vehicle with a < 2l engine possibly turbo charged options that will get more than 40 mpg's highway in base trim.
Jeep has to do some serious changes to get the MPG's to meet federal standards, and so that is the main reason for the panda based suv.
Each vehicle with have a "trail rated" trim, but this will no longer mean it can tackle the rubicon trail, but will be the most off road capable vehicle in its class, and a majority of the vehicles sold will not have this package.
TL:DR
The new cherokee is ugly as sin, and way too expensive.
