Can't go wrong with either of those, though they're pretty dissimilar cars. Mazda is probably likely to have fewer problems, but if you're in a salted area they're really bad for rust. A Honda Civic or Accord might be options too if you're looking for an 'appliance' or a Volvo might be a good bet. Toyotas of that era are pretty bad in everything except reliability (especially the Corolla which feels straight out of the '80s) and a Audi or VW probably aren't great choices except maybe a VR6 Jetta. I don't know much about teenage girls, but I know they love Jettas!
