The high center of mass is generally why I don't like SUV/CUV's, but I'm convinced that teenage boys can crash just about anything if they want to. Enrolling them in a good driving school will help. But the proportions and ease of repair are probably real pros for a CRV or Rav4 for the op's daughter. Dynamics are probably not great (depending on the generation), certainly the 2009 Forester dynamics were atrocious (too tall a vehicle on a small platform). This is true of minivans also (the height part and bad dynamics - not the small wheelbase). Not good to load those cars to the roof or it further destabilizes them. But then again a Porsche driver would probably complain about the handling of a SAAB so it may just be me. Personally, I'd put my kids in SAABs if I could (well, they'd have to buy them themselves though like I did). Probably won't be many saabs left once they are of driving age!
