you could use two trans oil temp gauges one in diff and one up front. i thought about that, i settled on the opinion that there is pley of flow from front to rear.
there is alot of heat in the diff. but at the same time i suspect and have heard there is alot of heat in the gear box also. having the entire system circulating efficienty i think is really important as a result. id like to hear some testimony from people who busted their trans but noted the precise temp of the trans when it broke.. if you search some past posts there were some good ideas being tossed around. one i liked was delivering the return oil to two locations, and i might just do that on my next tranny. im just hoping the few non-mechanical and few mechanical things are enough to keep me going for a while while i try to do explore some gearbox alternatives. maybe ill get lucky:<>
if you don't use an oil pump, i wouldn't believe that you can reliably control flow with something other than an oil pump. pumps are designed based closely on the viscosity of the fluid they pump. they might run, but how the liquid responds is different. so i put the pump as a high priority component for me. i wanted to do a bigger heat exchanger, but decided this would do until i have some data. i am going to log temperatures and see what happens.
since i haven't driven it yet i can't say for sure, but i have my readline heavyweight shockproof ready to use. after looking and looking, and hearing from some people, i am pretty sure this is the most protective oil that is also easy on the box. take a read on redline's website, look for the heavyweight. it even says it is for problem gearboxs in addition to other applications.
for some reason spraying the gears doesn't seem like a good idea, but id love to be wrong. might be technically infeasible as oil is tough to squirt. it drips fine though. Why not just drill a few drip holes in the pan above the gears :-O if you find something out please post it :)
