use 309 wire & argon or tri mix to weld SS. the mild wire ofcourse will work but if you live up north you will get rust in the welds & have trouble in the long run which can be easily avoided by using the corect filer & gas to beginn with
there is also a tri mix which is hard to get is smaller bottles which contains alot of helium & this is the shiznit for migging SS better then argon
its realy hard to get SS wire to look decent migging so dont wory about that, just run a bunch of test beads onto some scrap & weld some pieces together to figure out when to let up to avoid burnthru & what temp & speed torun the wire
use .026-.030 wire
what I do is set the heat to where it should be & then dial in the speed by sound, it should have a verry smoothe sizzle if its popin & spatterin its too fast probably & if its globing up at the gun & driping on & burning thru its too slow or the heat is up too high
the outer diameter of a bend is thinner then the inner diameter so care must be taken on the outside part not to burn thru
you can call me any time if you need to :-)
Im stoked to see folks willing to dive into this :-) just take your time & you will do a great job Im sure
take care
