Auto manufacturers appear to be marketing 4-wheel drive virtually exclusively on the basis of bad weather traction. As one who grew up driving manual front wheel drive cars in the snows of northern New England, I have not once (ever) wished for anything other than a good set of snow tires. So -- from a general performance standpoint, what is exciting about 4-wheel drive? Acceleration? Handling? Please enlighten me! Andy '93 900S; '00 9-5 wagon.
