When I was in the Air Force on assignment in Iceland, I came upon a 4WD jeep stuck in the snow on the side of the road. Luckily, I had a tow rope and I attached it to my front towing hitch and helped him out. He looked kinda embarrassed and thanked me. I just smiled and said, "gotta love those four wheel drives". No other car came along during the entire time until... I went around him while he was getting his stuff together. I couldn't really see the road, so I went into some deep snow and got stuck not 20 feet from him. I frantically tried to get out of my situation, trying all the tricks in the book, but to no avail. The guy tapped on my window and asked if I needed help. After he pulled me out, he said "gotta love four wheel drives" with a big grin on his face. To make a long story short, he pulled me out of the snow. During which time, a number of cars passed by (of course). Eventually, I made it to work. Only to hear for the rest of the day was stuff like "I thought Saabs were good in the snow..." "..good ol' Yankee ingenuity win ever' time... pulled that foreign job outta the snow..." "be American, buy American..." etc... Boy, I wish I would have taken pictures of my Saab pulling that Jeep out of the snow. Oh well. It was nice seeing the Icelandic police cruising around in their Saabs. It was also nice seeing the Saab friction tester cruising up and down the runway.
