I was in the same situation a few months back. I was considering a 9.5 Aero Wagon (2003 or newer for the 20+ HP) with manual transmission only, or a 5dr Viggen. I test drove many of both and helped a friend buy a 2001 Aero Wagon.

I found the two cars quite different. The Aero is definietly more plush and with that comes slight removal from the driving experience. The 9.5 wagon also has alot more space, but also feels bigger. Particularly noticeable is the width and 3 people can sit very comfortably in the back seat.

The Viggen is a hairy chested animal comaperd to the Aero. It can be quite civilized when driven 'normally', but when you tap into the power and handling, the intoxicating beast comes out. I LOVE it!! I guess I gave away my preference....in the long run, I just couldn't the feeling of driving the Viggen out of mind. Despite wanting a 5dr, I ended up with a 3dr which is a real pain for anyone who has to get in and out of the back seat. Keep that in mind if you consider a 3dr but intend to drive with passengers in the rear. The side bolsters on the Viggen seats really hamper collapsing them forward. The Viggen is also smaller, but that can be a good thing....i like the nimble feeling of a small car.

I'm glad I ended up with the Viggen despite the rear seat access. The Aero is a great car but Viggen is a special car and it driving it is amazing.....you can chose the luxury car or the beast. Perhaps it's my midlife crisis....

So it all comes down to....do you need the extra space, or some intoxication??
