MTAERO put another post above that recently because that information was on page 6 or 7 of the transmission thread i believe. Nobody had said that the cobalt stuff was stronger. It was under the idea that the closer gears would relieve some of the stress the torque our 9k's make on the longer gears leading to less striping and failures. I don't know enough about cryo-treating to know if its a life extender or solves the problem of stripping gears. The accepted failure problem of the zf is deffinitely the case flex under load causing all sorts of things to slowly come out of alignment and going under extra stress.
