More turbo lag after putting in 3" DP-- advice???

Hi guys,
My '95 9K A/T T5's been on GT28 BallBearing turbo quite awhile with 2.5" DP & cat back. It already has S/W modded & K&N drop-in.
Just last week I decided to go for 3.0" DP, thought I would have much more fun with the car,...WRONG!!!
I loss a lot of low & mid end punch at any gear, although higher rev. seems to shine more... My car is an A/T so it's much harder to get to that point of shining... With 2.5"DP, the turbo usually kicks in around 2.0-2.2K RPM. Now, with 3"DP, later than 2.5-2.7K RPM does it spool....
Felt like wanna go back to 2.5" DP. But before I'd do that kind of thing, meaning throwing $$$ spent on the new 3"DP within a week, I'm thinking about pouring in some more backpressure to the system...
I'm thinking about adding a reducing section(2.5"Diax6") somewhere on to the 3" DP as shown in picture. Anyone please comment if it would do better or worse in this case? Will this affect the EGT? Or should I just go back to the 2.5" DP?
Any comment / advice is very appreciate!
TIA,
Pat98
