They are two totally separate, unrelated things. An O2 sensor, in general, measures the oxygen content of the exhaust stream, and reports back a "rich" or "lean" signal. A wideband O2 sensor one-ups the traditional sensor by offering increased resolution and decreased reaction times over a traditional "narrow band" O2 sensor.
An EGT sensor (pyrometer) measures the temperature of the exhaust gas. It's useful for determining not only your mixture quality, but also the general state of combustion. While an O2 sensor tells you only that you're running rich or lean, an EGT can tell you rich or lean, as well as too little or too much timing. IMHO, it's invaluable.
