I think a good wide-band a/f gage is a very good tool and it has allowed me to safely tune with Jak's help from NC to over 300whp. I also had a fuel pump that started to get flakey, it made good fuel pressure up to 20psi of boost, around 65psi, then as I approached 25psi of boost, the fuel pressure went back the other way and was back to 40psi by 25psi off boost!!! DOH!!! The wide-band let me know it was lean, the fuel pressure gage let me know what was going on... New fuel pump, pressure good, a/f good...
The three most important gages in my opinion are good wide-band a/f, egt gage and oil pressure. It is possible to have ok a/f levels and still have too high of egt's and that can still damage the motor. I now have wide-band a/f, boost and oil pressure and I can watch fuel pressure if needed by noticing leaner a/f ratios and pulling out the fuel pressure gage from under the hood. The last one would be a egt kit.
