Hi Terry, the '94 up block angle is all wrong and as was said it won't bolt to the C-900 trans. The last thing you want is balance shafts, if the later Saab engines were designed with enough counterweight area in the crankshaft their balance shafts wouldn't be necessary. Also in '91 Saab (GM) went to an inferior material for their cranks. Anyway the best thing going for strength and reliability is the early Saab engine. What we do that is a good upgrade is to go to a '94 up head on a C-900 block / timing cover http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/index.html?bID=111001 as they flow better than even the mid year 9000 heads. Saab's early rally 2.0 engines made 551HP with stock internal engine parts (other than pistons) and no problems! Also the early Saab engines being basically half of a V-8 their bottom end has more strength because the pistons and rods (cylinders) are applying pressure to the crank at a 45 degree angle rather than straight down. Another great mod for these early engines is a longer rod with a shorter pin height piston which we keep on the shelf. I'm sure that the guy in Sweden that did manage to get a 2.3 (I believe it was) into a C-900 must have used a serious transmission as the torque from the longer stroke would kill a typical C-900 trans even sooner. Take care, Dave
