I think Paul and I are pretty much on the same page.
He is right in brakes are limited by tires. The stock ones for what you are doing are more than enough. Get a set of the Carbotech XP series pads and make sure you get them well seated; The Hawk HPS is also a great, widely availible, and inexspensive race pad but far from par with the carbotechs. I run stock calipers/solid rotors and can lock the wheels up at 120+ if I really wanted to. My braking is completely limited by my tire grip.
Tires are always the best performance upgrade. They allow you to carry more speed, brake harder, and accelerate harder. If you want to get a set of dedicated race wheels go to a 17" Diamond Racing Set. They will custom make them for you to your specs as far as offset, width, and bolt pattern. I suggest 17" because 16" is kinda an oddball in the performance tire world. 17" will give you greater options in race scrubbs (used race tires). As far as width I think anything larger than 8" on a fwd car is overkill, especially when you have a good set of R compounds.
One thing you will learn as you do more and more track days is Horsepower is fun but braking and carrying speed are what get great track times. Many cars will pull away from me on the straights but I make alot up in braking and carrying speed thru.
