First off I'm not exactly sure what the group buy product is as I'm unwilling to sign up to yahoo just to get a look, I think I understand it to be a steering rack clamp and brace bar copied from the abbott pieces.
I have the vrk so I know what the abbott pieces look like
I run an aerospace machine shop so I know how to make stuff. It's pretty funny reading about different folks ideas on how things are made. You can forget about 'molding' it's not like making jello. If you wanted to cast the parts, probably from alum, it's only the clamp and it's two pieces, for patterns and molds it's probably $2k to $3k if your lucky and you'll have to buy the parts in quantity to get the casting cost down and you'll have to finish machine all the critical surfaces, and that's only the clamp.
Machining the parts from solid stock is the only way. Reverse engineering from the abbott parts is no problem, nothing is that close tolerance.
If a shop couldn't make the two clamp pieces for $75-$80 for the pair they're hacks, but the quantity would have to make it tempting. You also have to machine the two clamp fasteners , the brace bar and both brace bar ends. Add to that making the welding fixtures for the brace bar,and welding, polishing, anodize for the clamp pieces etc.
It ends up being a bunch of hours. Quantity is the key, the price would kill you at 5 pcs. but at 50 pcs. the price could be reasonable.
And no I'm not interested in making them.
