....just ask BillJ, Karl, or myself. It's the A/F ratio and EGT's you have
to be concerned about. Getting 300 hp out of the Mitsu' isn't a problem - it's maintaining a margin of safety from melt-down! I can't comment with authority on water injection, but my intuitive guess is that the steam plays a very minor role in the measurement of ionization current - remember, it's measuring AFTER combustion. I would bet that the water stays as super-heated steam and would contribute very little, in terms of ion current that the T5 would be calculating.I do know this, steam is a great anti-detonant. I've seen graphs of specific fuel consumtion and maximum cylinder pressures vs. bmep, and with higher bmep's the use of water will definitely decrease the amount of fuel being used to prevent detonation. What this means is, basically there's less stress on your engine - thermally and with working pressures. As long as water injection is used without disabling any APC functions, I can't see any negatives. To get 300 + hp, you will need higher boost pressures than 1.08 bar (15 psi) - that is, you'll need software rewriting. I wouldn't recommend doing it with devices like MBC's because then you'll be disabling the APC.
