a couple of comments on water injection

First I would like to say I do not have the training or the experiance that Dr. Boost has. But wold like to make a couple of comments in regards to water injection.
The argument that water displaces the air is some what true. But if you run excessively rich to control detonation you have to use a much larger volume of fuel to get the same result. The latent heat of gasoline is about 350 kj/kg.K and that of water is 2256 kj/kg.K so water will remove more heat than gas. A leaner running engine will produce more power than one that is overly rich. My argument is that it will take much less water to provide the same in cylinder cooling as fuel.
Another fact about a properly designed water inejction system is that we want water droplets, while very small to get into the combustion chamber so that they can evapurate in the cylinder there by removing the excess heat created there. The droplets turn in to steam whos expansion rate also create horse power, small but none the less it does.
One not that I have noticed both as a SAAB dealers for 27 years and from following the performance boards, none of the engineers in Sweden seem to take into account the wide range of ambeint air tempurature in the US or the poor quality of fuel in many parts of our land. Where I live here in the midwest temperatures can very by as much as 30C in one day, on rare occations. In the summer we get temps of 37C, at that no air to air intercooler will give the perforamnce of a properly designed and installed water injection system.
Thanks for your time.
