Hi !
There is no such thing as magic, just science you do not understand.....
AND,
There is NO absolute truth !
IF you want an engine with 300 bhp, you've got to ask your self a question.
Do I feel lucky ?
Well, do you Terry ?
How much can you afford to gamble ?
Under what kind of circumstances do I want the 300 bhps ?
Are you aiming at a 300 bhp grocery getter, or a long endurance race engine ?
So, let's start to line up some ideas:
* Water injection can "upset" the ionization current.
I'm afraid that I have very little experiece in this subject.
In mid 90's we did som experiments, we found out that water additives will affect the ion current, and thus knock control.
We actually used the windshield washer water.....
Water injection can be useful since it will keep the engine clean, not soot or so. (less knocking) But the water vapor will reduce the amount of airmass charge, resulting in less power. On the other hand, you can have greater boost pressure, to compensate.
Water injection is nothing for the regular customer, since he/she will run out of water.
* The selection of a TuRbo unit depends on if you've got a "street car" or a "race track car".
For a street application, a MHI TD04HL-15T-6cm2 will do fine, how ever, you're pushing it close to the limit of destruction. If you consider the wastegate factor, it's a poor choice for 300 bhp. Or in other words, you need a lot of turbine pressure, for maximum power one would prefer less pressure and more flow thru the turbine. I'm WELL AWARE of some 9k Aero's that are pushing well above 300 bhp's with the stock TuRbo.
The compressor size (-15T)is OK, but not perfect.
The TD04HL-15T-6cm2 will give your car a nice smooth low/mid range perfirmace, and still quite OK at high rpm.
An upgrade would be something like TD04HL-19T-7cm2, then the low end will suffer, but the high rpm range will be a lot stronger.
Or you can run at 300 bhp with a better safety.
(Stories like "340+ bhp with TD04HL-15T-6cm2" can be considerd as "above the limit")
* Fuel, bigger injectors will be needed.
I would use the "green giants ...968" with stock fuelpressure the can supply your engine with the fuel it needs.
* Intercooer, I prefer to use a nice I/C instead of water injection.
Do not use the stock I/C for 300 bhp's. Aim for something like the KylarJohnson 50 mm I/C.
* Exhaust, for 300 bhp, a well designed 3" is more than enought.
* Transmission, I hope that you've got a better clutch !
Have to run.....
