...used about the same size core as the stock i.c. but the fins ran horizontally and had one vertical endtank on either side; no in-down-around-up-out flow like stock i.c.
also, if you are running big boost, then pull your exhaust manifold and grind down that stupid flap of metal in there. i detected absolutely *no* difference in performance with a stock APC, but with my mod'd box, boost became so stable up in the red that i thought the KS had died.
caveat: doing this requires a new exhaust manifold gasket. this is not a pleasant job (your back *will* be sore). also, you'll likely break a stud, from what i've read and experienced. i ended up using a cosmetics mirror, a punch, 5 drill bits and 2 easy-out bits to get it out; took me about 4 hours because i feared wrecking the head. to keep the drill straight, i threaded two old studs nearby the one i was drilling as a guide to keep the drill perpendicular. replace studs and get good, copper nuts. double up old nuts on new studs and torque studs to spec before threading the new bolts.
