Pop goes the tranny... what to do now?

Well, I got on it in 1st the other day on a back road, BADA-BOOM!! Smoke coming out, no gears worked, rolled to a stop. Turns out the pinion went out and the case cracked- $$$$. Who sells rebuilt trannies? My core is useless at 180K. I spoke with ScanWest, and although I trust them to provide a good unit, without my core just the tranny (the stock rebuilt, not the high power unit) will be over $2000 before shipping. Then I ship it for $200, and get it installed for $700 locally (I cannot do this myself). So I'm 3G in the hole just to have the car back on the road. Anyone know of any less expensive rebuilt tranny retailers?
This whole thing has got me thinking that there is no way this car will satisfy my jonesing for speed. Since the tranny is so fragile at power levels less than half of my goals, I think if I do decide to keep the car it will be finished up in the next few months and kept conservative while I put away money for a Skyline or similar. Keep this in mind everyone who runs lots of power in C900s, one day you could be left on the side of the road $3000 poorer. Good luck.
