Steve,
I'm sure that you are smart enough to laugh at all of the jealousy here. Hey Kevin, he owns and has owned a lot of C900's! The fact is, Steve, myself, Dave New, Chad, Kevin Y, and countless other hi-boost nuts started tweaking C900's just like everyone else here on the performance board. They were, and still are a lot of fun! It's just that the tranny absolutely sucks! LH absolutelty sucks! If you were at the SOC and with the exception of Jak (we won't really include Jeff P's massively modded 900) the majority of c900's left everybody scratching there heads. My 89TC, that I love and still drive everyday, is a great example of this. It FEELS like at least 250hp, but if I were to put it on the dyno, well, a big slapo in the face would soon follow. Really old news to everybody here, but I put a used $100 downpipe and a $495 SQR ecu in my 95 9000 and was able to make 270 hp at the wheels and a bucket of torque. Not to be cocky, but in second gear alone, my car pulls from around 25 to 65 in 3 seconds flat, quietly, smooth as glass, and when your not on boost, it drives just like it did stock. I bring my customers out to lunch in the Slut and they don't even know that it's been modified!
Will a C900 do this? Maybe, but the question is why bother? It's gonna take what Jeff P did to make that kind of power or something like what Damien is doing, but these are pure race cars with A LOT of time invested and a lot of money. It wouldn't be very practical as a daily driver anyway.
C900's rock everybody here, but they will not beat any transverse lay-out Saab with **the same or similar modifications**, period. Chip for chip, downpipe for downpipe, mod to mod, weight removal to weight removal, the C900's won't be as fast or at least not be anywhere near as reliable (ie; dead tranny.) It sucks but it's just the way it is. It won't stop me from lovin my old 900TC either! :o)
