Extended oil change intervals are a hard sell over here in the US. What we fail to recognize, is that not all oil is the same. PAO oils are a completely different animal from conventional oils. They won't coke where dino will, & they will flow when dino won't. It truly is "better living thru chemistry!"
If you're running dino oil in a turbo, there's no way I'd recommend going more than 3k miles between changes. In fact, I'd find it hard to recommend anything other than a great 15W-40 diesel dino oil (or, if you can find it, 10W-30 or 10W-40 diesel dino oil) for use in a turbo. Heck, at least THOSE oils are made with turbo-diesel use in mind! (And, it's what Saab sells for dino oil over in Europe.)
From the reading I've done, I'm convinced that a fully synthetic, Group IV (PAO) oil with a great additive package (I know, that doesn't leave a lot of choices) will provide better protection after 10k miles of use than a dino oil will after only 2k miles of use. Better protection AFTER longer intervals.
But I realize that not everyone's at that same level of comfort with better oil. Some of us are, & we'll continue to be the noise makers. ;-)
