Early spring maintenance questions Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Tue, 8 Mar 2011 13:24:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
With the winter being colder than usual here in NC, I have not had my '71 Sonett out since early December, but now that this will be the first spring since I bought it, I am getting ready to do the first oil change and tranny oil change and have a few questions.
1) Having read here about the need for ZDDP additive in the oil, I bought a quart of Rislone Oil Supplement with ZDDP. It says to add it with the oil change. Is it a 1-for-1 swap with one quart of the synth oil I plan to put in? Can't believe it is 1 quart more on top of the normal amount for the V4 engine. Also, not knowing whether the prior owner used dyno or synth oil, any problem with going with synth at this point?
2) Is it easiest to change the filter going in through the top engine bay hatch, or some other route?
3) The service manual mentioned something about draining and adding the 1.8qts of tranny oil (I have Redline MTL) through the "same opening", but it seems like there is a drain plug on the bottom of the transaxle and level check plug on the top of the transaxle. So, it seems logical to drain from below and add from the one on top. Am I missing something here?
4) Any special steps to take after removing the old tranny oil and adding the new Redline MTL?
