FoMoCo carb tops are subject to warp. Leakage around the gasket might be the number two cause of engine fires. Number one would be the intake tube popping off. (Been there--$1500 repair.) Be sure to anchor it with a couple of zip ties.
Be sure the float doesn't hang up or hang down. One is starvation; the other is massive overflow. (Been there both times.) I think the replacement brass fitment for the float may not be as well machined as the original.
Kit is easy. Directions with it are enough.
