Hi Michael,
Congratulations on the Sonett! I currently have two Sonetts, along with tow 96's.
I've had VSaab's since the 1970's and I quite messing with the FoMoCo carbs long ago. It just isn't worth it to me. I put a Weber 34ICH on and the car runs so much better and there's no problems or issues like warped covers and leaking gas.
I appreciate your thought of keeping it original, but we're talking about a bolt on change that does nothing but improve driveability, performance, and safety. And it's not like we're talking about a car where the original carb would improve resale value. Most of us would pay a bit more for the better carb; we certainly wouldn't pay more the the FoMoCo!
Jack Ashcraft's books are excellent and he even has one to put the Weber 34ICH on. I just did one a month ago. The new carb was $159 and a nice new K&N filter was another $25 or so. Takes an hour or so to change it over.
There's my 2 cents.
