Hi Brad,
Glad it's all working!
I guess we have have our particular methods for taking out the drivetrain. I've done it pretty much every way possible. In the last few years, I've been doing it by taking out the engine first and then the gearbox. I know, I know- there's people that swear it should be done by taking them both out as a unit. And let me tell you, I've done it that way since my first Saab back in...1978 I guess. But I've grown to like the separate technique, as long as you get the front of the gearbox up at the right angle.
Anyway, when it comes to the axles, I jack up the car a bit, remove the wheels and then pull the bottom bolts out of the ball joint. Then, you can pull or pry the bottom ball joint out of the lower control arm and then the axle will pull right out of the inner driver. It is a very controlled process and I find it means I almost never lose one of the tee axle end cap little roller bearings. I say "almost never". And I do the reverse when I put the gearbox back in. Then put a block under the front of the gearbox to get it at the right angle, and in goes the engine.
Keep at it!
