Hey Brad, It looks to me as if the springs with heavier gauge were made to match exterior diameter, not interior. Thus too tight top and bottom. I'd be tempted to take a rotary grinding wheel in a drill and ease the interior diameter until they fit cleanly. I'd want them to fit without binding as this might generate sounds when in use.
