Hi,

Watching the debate about oils I can see that I lost the plot with my oil
changes.  In my 900s I used to change the oil every 3-4k miles.  With my
current (1997) 9000 2.0 LPT the service manager at the dealer is insistent
that I would waste my money by changing the oil more often than 12 months or
12k miles.

OK any recommendations for oils available in the UK (Castrol from Halfords,
any other makes available easily and recommended?)  Am I correct that I would
be looking (as per manufacturers spec) for a 10-40, is that semi-synthetic or
mineral?

On a different note ... my dealer (Eastern Western SAAB Edinburgh Scotland)
recommends and does as part of the service besides SAAB spec an engine flush
with every oil change.  Perhaps the sludge problems that were reported in the
other messages have showed up in the UK too.  They started recommending
flushing to customers around year 2000 ... (they did not do flushes when I
bought the car from them in 1999).
