There are several products available at your favorite auto parts store.  Some
mfgrs of synthetic oil (e.g., Amsoil) also sell flushes designed specifically
to clean out the sludge when migrating an older engine from mineral oil to
synthetic.

Essentially, replace a quart of oil with a quart of the flushing oil
(changing the filter is a good way on many cars), run the engine as directed,
drain and refill with new oil.
