Given the current bleak economic conditions, I don't know that you can place all the blame on Saab. Heck, who would buy a used 2001 when you can get a brand new one w/0% financing or $5K incentive. Maybe you could get purchase price in an M3, but I wouldn't count on it, and you'd probably lose more than 2.5K on the S4 today. If you like a car, buy it and keep it (I know, I know, you would if you could - sorry to hear about your situation).
Or you can do what my father-in-law does - buy a car you don't like because you got a great deal, and then do it again every couple years because you don't like it (I'm not sure if he's saving any money in the long run because the big depreciation is between new and used).
