Probably a controversial thing, but quite fronkly, the cruise control light is a govt mandated thing in the first place, and there might be some stipulations that the dimmer cannot affect it. Ditto for the high beam indicator.I think that it's bad enough that all of those boobs are driving around with their excess lighting turned on(includes front and rear fogs and driving lights, and high beams),so I'm in favor of making sure that the dashboard indicator lights are still lit up.
For me, this raises the question about the night panel that others will surely defend, and that is,WHO NEEDS IT?. You can accomplish essentially the same thing in any car by just dimming the lighting to a level that you like.
Saab's description of this feature is "aircraft inspired". In just about every plane that I have flown, this condition would be know as partial panel failure. Aircraft do not turn off the lights on instruments at night to reduce fatigue. The color of the lighting is a design criteria, and insome aircraft, the color of a guage light will change to indicate an out of tolerance condition. In no plane that I am aware of does the lighting go out during night conditions. Red is used extensively for many gauges, and in virtually all jet and turbine aircraft, the primary and nav displays are now CRT based video screen style, so there is no need for a backlight.
Night Panel is just another button on the dash that could be eliminated
