My '01 Aero is sealed, I assume yours is as well
I opened mine with a pin vise (perforated the seam with a small hand drill)then sealed the edge and screwed it back together. The pics show it.
my fix lasted ~9mos, but there is a recent thread about the proper battery (I used the "SE" version of the battery which is the wrong one). Ill do it again with the proper battery soon though.
