Hmmm. I'm not sure what your film is. Also my '99 is refrigerator white, so our problems might be different. But FWIW --

I use the Porter Cable orbital polisher and, at one point, my finish was badly oxidized. So I bought the polisher plus Klasse cleaner, polish and all-in-one. (Might not have exactly the right names, there.) Applying all three was about a three-beer job, but the finish came out looking spectacular, almost like new, I'd say.

I also had a film in spots on the rear quarter panels the following Spring, but another job with Klasse, using only the All-In-One, cleaned it all up again. It is a long-lasting product. I applied a coat in Sept and it was still repelling water through February in a New England winter.

How old is your 9-5, and is it outside a lot? My guess is that your black finish might need the full, 3-step treatment. And you might want to try an orbital tool to get a little more aggressive than the microfiber cloth and elbow grease. Just follow the direction for the proper orbital polisher setting, move the orbiter in figure 8's, keep the pad clean and moist, and DON'T bear down, the weight of the polisher is all you need. Fortunately, you don't have to repeat the 3-step process every time you use Klasse.

Some folks say the orbital polisher is no better than the microfiber and elbow grease approach, but it seems to me that the orbital polisher is preferred if your finish is weathered, oxidized, cloudy ... If you have a newer car, you probably can do it just as well by hand.

Also, there's a site with a help line that you can access by putting the phrase proper auto care into your browser.

It's almost getting warm enough to get a new car by detailing the old one. Anyone else have an opinion on fav products, methods . . .?
