I have a black '01 9-5 Aero sedan. We've owned a number of Saabs over the years, always washed and waxed them with the Meguiars products: a cleaner (wash) followed by a polish, then wax. Not bad, but...
When I got the black Saab, I did a little research and talked to the guys at a local detailer shop where they have a small retail outlet for car care supplies. Here's what works for me:
1.) Wash with any decent car wash solution. Dry car with California drying blade.
2.) Clay bar. You will NEVER believe what a lot of elbow grease and a clay bar will do for your car's finish. You need the bar plus a sprayer of lubricating stuff. Removes every bit of dirt and oxidation - along with most of your energy!
3.) 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for making those little scratches disappear, etc. Great polish. Expensive, but worth it, IMHO.
4.) Wax - I like Collinite 476S Doublecoat, but any similar product will work just fine after the glaze.
The Aero just sparkles after this treatment. It had some mild swirls on the paint from its first 27K (got it as a CPO car), but all of that minor stuff just vanishes with this detailing.
