I have the V6 9-5, as does a coworker. Both excellent cars, one a 1999 one a 2001. I rented a 2002 Maxima over the summer while in New Orleans, what a cheap riding car. Granted- it was faster than my SAAB with the 255 HP engine, but everything else was a negative experience. I can't imagine the 1999 model, which DOESN'T have the 255 HP engine.
The SAAB is a fab snow car. Live in Colorado and get to use it a good bit in the snow. It has a very solid feel in the snow, and plows through with no probs. Dunno if snow tires are needed.
Also check this BB further for reliability issues. You won't find too many. The 1999 had a few quibbles, but nothing major.
