Having owned both I think it's fair to say they are two very different cars. The Maxima engine is quiet and smooth - more so than the SAAB V6 - but doesn't have the seat of the pants acceleration of the SAAB. I also find the Saab to be far more comfortable on the long drives, MUCH more fun to drive and, unlike the Maxima, I still find myself shooting admiring glances at it across the parking lot. After 4 years and 75,000 miles the Saab has proven every bit as reliable as the Maxima, which is to say almost flawless.
