Hello Beytor,
I just wanted to respond to the last post and put in my .02 otherwise...

I'm a Saab newbie ('01 9-5 SE, our first). Admired them for a long time beforehand.
With previous knowledge that the LPT I-4 was the *real* Saab engine and the V-6 was not, I test-drove them back to back (auto). We ordered the V-6 because of the superior off-the-line response and smoother idle. At the time, the lease price of the Aero was significantly more.

Although my gut (and many testimonials on this site) suggests the I-4 will outlast the V-6 before it wears out, the things that are bolted to it are not necessarily above reproach [Turbos, DI, ECU]. Day-to-day reliability counts just as much if not more to me than longevity alone. Those who predicted doom and gloom for the current V-6 have not been validated to this point. We'd certainly be seeing them on this BB if they were. To its credit, I'm sure the I-4 will be easier to work on.

Oh the MOST IMPORTANT factor in your decision, IMHO, should be the quality and reputation of the servicing dealer nearest you. When we moved from Syracuse, NY (great dealer) to southeasten Kentucky (bad servicing dealer), our experiences with the new dealer have frustrated us to the point that we'll never buy a Saab again as long as we live here. Unlike Nissan dealers, we have only 2-3 to choose from in the whole state. Please consider this carefully. Best of luck with your purchase.
