here goes. In general SAABs are good cars. In particular, the 9-5 is good, buy one.
If you are going to keep it for a long time, I would consider the engine choice carefully.
*** Bias warning ***
I'm a SAAB bigot. I've had SAABs going back to a '77 99 EMS.
I know there are more V6 9-5s out there, but with the I4 you get the tried and true SAAB engine. This is the same basic engine that SAAB has been putting in cars for 30 years. It is pretty much bullet proof and they routinely see between 200K and 300K miles. The V6 is a GM engine that SAAB had nothing to do with the engineering of. The I4 has lower operating and maintainence costs.
The V6 only exists in the SAAB line because GM marketing thinks people are too stupid to understand that a turbocharged I4 with balance shafts can be almost as smooth and just as powerful as a V6. They think we only understand that other lux cars have 6s, so we will think the I4 is inferior.
Just my opinion, but given my SAAB history, I want as much SAAB in my SAAB and as little GM as possible. Given the reliability history of GMs vs. SAABs, I don't think that is crazy!
