That is simply not true. The EPA does *not* perform its tests based on assumptions that driver behavior will be influenced by an information light. It only runs its tests based on the operation of the car itself. Gov't agencies are just not in the business of trusting citizens to behave reasonably. (I may think they should, but they don't). If what you said is true, then the Corvette would not be saddled with that stupid 1st-gear-to-4th-gear shifting mechanism that drives all the Corvette guys crazy. Instead, Chevy would just install a Saab-like light.
The shift-up light has absolutely *nothing* to do with the US Gov't, and US Gov't agencies' testing procedures are *not* affected by the presence or absence of such a light.
