Hard to explain unless you have driven one on a winding back country road.. :o) Seriously, though, they are a safe car, handle very well, and are very very good in the snow. Like GM said, any car that's a decade old with some miles on it is going to have some problems. It's something about the personality of the car though. You drive one of these, and you literally feel *connected* to the car. The reason you see a variety of problems on this board is simply because that is what this board is on here for; to solve problems with these cars. :o) I've been posting on this board since the summer of 1998, and there have been months at a time where I haven't had to post a single thing about my car, it ran perfectly. I bought my 88 900S with 170,000 miles on it for 1500$ in August of 1998, and it now has 215,000 miles on it, and I have put about 1500$ into it for repairs. I have learned how to do many repairs on my own (changed the plugs, air filter, distributor, fuel filter, o2 sensor [Monster you RULE], ball joints [thanks to Dave N's site], my dashboard, and front and rear shocks) Before I got this car, I could pump gas..that was about it..haha.. :o) Thee car has taken me, friends and cargo countless time to various ski resorts, and made the non-stop 5 hour drive from Maine to Vermont for college numerous times without a single mishap. (take that back, I hit a partridge once and cracked my grill. hahaha..don't worry, damn thing flew away)
Just the fact that you are reading up on posts here is good though, that means you are already learning about the weak points in the Classic 900's, and their little quirks that we all learn to love and hate at the same time. If you know anyone that owns one, or if you can test drive one for a couple hours, do it..seriously.. Then it will alllll make sense.. :o)
Good luck!
Jake
