The others have really good points - First, most folks come here to find answers to their problems. Very few folks write in to say that their car is running fine. If you hang around a hospital, you'd figure that people spend a lot of time sick.
Second, most people who own Saabs *really* like their Saabs. They want to keep them around for a looooong time. Any car, Saab or Honda or Mercedes, requires maintenance and repair. What you find here are a lot of folks with 100K+ cars that they want to keep running. Yes, there are plenty of Hondas out there with over 100K, but they engender the same enthusiasm as a toaster oven. Yup, it's an appliance that works just fine. When it breaks, I'll buy another toaster oven. But do I enthusiastically look forward to making toast? Probably not.
Check out the other marque websites. Most of the other ones spend most of their time talking about the latest in aftermarket headlights, what kind of wheels they have, and where the best place to window tint is. When those cars break, they take them to the dealer, or just buy another. Yes, there are some wrench turners on those boards, but nowhere near as many as on this BB. Does that mean that Saabs break more often, or that Saab people are more interested in keeping their cars running well, and less about the latest clear tail lights?
I have run five Saabs over 100K. Just sold a 9000 with 140K+, and my daily 9000 has 133K. In recent memory, there was a '86 900T that I put 162K on. Original turbo, engine never needing anything but oil and sparkplugs. I replaced the inner drivers on the tranny once. Not bad for 160K miles. The only thing that stopped that car was a bridge abuttment.
Which brings up another Saab point. Safety. I hit ice at highway speeds in that 900, and slammed into a concrete bridge. No airbags, just belts. My passenger and I opened the doors and stepped out. No cuts, bruises, or broken bones. The car was toast, but we were fine. If I've got to spend an extra afternoon or two under the car fixing it, but have a better chance of walking away from a crash than being carried away, I'll do it.
Lastly, all cars break. This BB is a great resource. Isn't it better to have a resource where folks can help you diagnose a problem (even if it's just to make sure the mechanic is honest), instead of where to get the best window tints?
