If you're not already in love with the 900's character, you will fall for it later. Decended from the remarkable model 99, the 900 is an "engineer's car" built by some of the last old-school engineers building cars in any volume. It's unconventional appearance is a direct reflection of it's unique design: delighful driver feed-back, wonderful FWD handling, *very* rugged/safe, and long-lived. A cared for saab can be re-born once or twice in it's service life, and those repairs you cite reflect that maintenance process.
The real questions:
1)Does driving an 6+ yr old saab give you more pleasure than driving a new brand-x?
2)Do you enjoy the car enough to justify maintaining it?
Saaber's become so attached to their cars they'll do almost anything. In contrast, many other cars don't form that bond because they are thin on substance - when a major repair comes up you'd just as soon sell it and buy another. Not so w/ old saabs! ;o)
