Jen,

Check my re post above( which is the best year for a convertible) as I added a few differences of the 900.

Remember to check that section on the edge of the hood..(inner crevice) I am in NY as well, and believe I saw that car advertised in BK. Jen,the most important thing to do, is set money aside for repairs. It is not to say that 900s are money pits, yet the car is very old now. In my opinion, many of them have reached that need for restoration stage.

Aside from a few fanatics who have 900s in original, pristine conditions( they usually want top dollar for them)many of the ones you see need restoration to obtain that crisp experience.

So again, have a about 1500.00 ( for mechanical, not cosmetic maintenance) set aside in addition to the purchase price. Many of us here are enthusiasts/hobbyists, and like working on cars. I am not trying to discourage you, yet if you really need a car for transportation and the money is tight, I would not suggest a 19 year old car.

James nailed it on the head with the 2.1 engine.

Feel free to ask any questions. Like many mentioned, rust is your number one concern(if you are into appearance) then it is the transmission, and smoothness of the engine.

Postscript, If you need a second opinion or a person to test drive the car in Brooklyn, I can possibly meet you.
